Picture perfect welcome to Mui Ne
I have arrived in the tiny beach resort location of Mui Ne courtesy of a 250km bus trip from Nha Trang and my initial thoughts are – what have I done? What possessed me to choose to come here? What a disaster!
My bus has stopped at what appears to be a resort and we are motioned that this is our drop off point. I have no idea where I actually am in relation to Mui Ne’s town centre (if there is such a thing). We didn’t pass through anything that looked like civilization.
I am in Hue, Vietnam and it is day ten of my month long journey travelling north-south through Vietnam. It is the first real rainy day so I take the chance to sleep in. I am on my own today as the others (my brother, his girlfriend and their mate) wanted to move on already. I have stayed on an extra day as I wanted to look at the walled Citadel and Imperial City so I am going it alone and am excited about the day. But for a while longer… back to sleep.
I have travelled on the Reunification Express with my brother, his girlfriend and their mate Dan for the last 14 hours making our way south through Vietnam from Hanoi. We arrive in the World Heritage Site of Hue (situated on the central coast of Vietnam) at 9:30am.
My brother, his girlfriend, their mate Dan and I have spent a lovely overnight cruise on the calm waters of the magnificent heritage listed Ha Long Bay and after an equally lovely breakfast it is time for our Junk boat to return us to the solid ground of Bai Chay where I am reunited with my passport (insert sigh of relief here).
Last night I stayed at the Saigon Ha Long Hotel in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. It’s now morning and I wake to a most beautiful sunny day. I send the following text message to Alex to update him about the trip…
“My news: Got motorbikes yesterday and managed to have accident with car. Few bruises and will be able to laugh about it one day. Managed to ride 100km but have given it away as a bad joke and on bus and train now. Going on Junk next two days. Scenery gorgeous.” Continue reading
This morning started in a fairly typical way; I woke up, showered, ate breakfast and met up with the others. Today is 17 September and I was completely oblivious to the day’s events that lay ahead. Had I realised what was in store for me today I would never have got out of bed. Continue reading
16 September and we are up at 3:00am today (yawn) for our 6:45 am Air Asia flight from Bangkok’s impressive Suvarnabhumi Airport to Hanoi, arriving at Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport to begin our Vietnam journey. Continue reading
