Hamilton Island Series: Catseye Beach, the Marina and restaurants of Hamilton Island, Queensland

Hamilton Island, the kind of thing you daydream about

Hamilton Island, the kind of thing you daydream about

I have been lucky enough to travel to Hamilton Island on an all expenses paid weekend that a dear friend and work colleague received as a gift as part of the annual brown-nose of the year award from the company we both work for.

With our first glorious day on Hamilton Island behind us, and with two more days to go, we begin our new day, again enjoying our glorious view from our sub-let balcony (hello again Mr Cockatoo).

After a beaut breakfast we make our way down to Catseye Beach which sits opposite the hotel, or is it the hotel sits opposite the beach (either way…).  Our Coral Sea View room of the Reef View Hotel overlooks the beach and we head there, which is just a short walk via the hotel’s palm tree lined resort pool to access the beach.

It is still a bit overcast today but because it is warm, it does not stop us from getting into our bathers and enjoying a swim with the intention of also trying some snorkelling in the slightly deeper sections of water off Catseye Beach.  The result is semi-successful, eventually returning to relax on the sun lounger chairs overlooking the sandy beach, giving us time to dry off before we head down to the Marina courtesy of the courtesy island shuttle bus.

Lunch (paid for by our work as part of our generous allowance) is enjoyed at Manta Ray Café which is a “pizza by design” eatery located in a scenic, relaxing spot overlooking the marina.  The afternoon is spent walking off lunch as we wander the marina area and shops, allowing us to build up our appetite as we look forward to another dinner on Hamilton Island.

While it might sometimes seem like we are simply filling-in time between beautiful meals (which is definitely not the case) our dinner is a treat tonight with a “romantic” affair for two dining at the Beach House restaurant.  The Beach House restaurant is located on the shore of Catseye Beach, the meal is excellent and, with an absolute beachfront location, what’s not to like?  Who doesn’t like a restaurant right on the beach?  This is living and, not being able to top such an indulgence, we finish our evening here.
