Sunrise this morning was at 5:32am…missed that…blue sky everywhere today which immediately puts you in good spirits.
Our breakfast is eaten in the buffet style restaurant as we pass by the many islands of the Whitsundays including Whitsunday Island and Hamilton Island…now this is cruising.
We finish our breakfast quickly so we can go to the front of the ship – which I though would be an ideal vantagepoint with the islands passing on both sides of the boat/ship. Well, you wouldn’t read about it…the helipad (located at the front of the ship) is closed for some repairs and we can’t get to the very front of the ship….pity.
The water is so very blue, the islands so idyllic…what’s not to like…I won’t do it justice so how about I just show you what I mean…
The boat/ship has been travelling away from Australia’s coastline in order to reach the Whitsunday Islands and once through the islands will work its way back towards the coastline and then continue to travel parallel to the coast all the way back to our final destination of Sydney.
Having travelled parallel to the coast we have had pretty smooth sailing (cruising) all trip. Last night sitting in the theatre I even forgot we were on a (2000 passenger) ship, normally there is some occasional gentle rocking to remind you and bring you back to reality but last night was especially smooth.
Breakfast done…check….so it must time to go and see Baldwin for our usual after breakfast coffee fix… “thanks Baldwin”. Coffee fix in hand we head back to our room and to our balcony, which is where I am today writing this blog. We pass by some more islands which are becoming more scattered…I wish this was my permanent office! Meanwhile, Alex is in the gym lifting some heavy weights…
Alex spied Ikomang (our room attendant) in the hallway as we came back to the room so he thinks this is a opportune time to give Ikomang a personal gratuity of US$100 for all his hard work. I wouldn’t want to clean up after Alex 3 times a day either….oh wait…I do (and without any gratuity)!! Anyway we have appreciated Ikomang’s efforts and his graciousness and wouldn’t feel right if we didn’t show our appreciation (above the pre-paid gratuities already paid direct at the time of booking).
There are lots of activities on again today but I think I will finish blogging, read for a bit, and we still have lunch to fit in of course.
We try something new for lunch today, sort of….the Cascades Dining Room has a salad bar lunch where you choose the salad ingredients and choice of dressing and they combine it all and toss it for you and plate it up for you. This was really nice and healthy until we were given the lunch dessert menu ….ooops.
Alex wants to watch the 4:00pm session of “Total Recall 2012”. He must really want to see it because he asked if we could get to the movie theatre at 3:00pm (since we were too late arriving the other day and missed out on getting a seat altogether). See you Alex…this movie’s not for me… and besides, I have more reading to do on the balcony so “ahoy for now”![showmyads]
