Today is a Monday and the Labor Day long weekend in New York but there is no rest for the wicked as Alex and I have more exploring to do of this wonderful city.

Today we are heading to Pier 84 to take a look at the Aircraft Carrier Intrepid.  Later we are going on an Metro Bus Tour which is an open top bus tour of downtown Manhattan. Continue reading

USA series: New York City – Circle Line Harbor Lights Cruise

Alex and I are taking a cruise on the water tonight.  More specifically we are taking a New York City – Harbor Lights Cruise covering sections of both the Hudson River and the East River. 

This river cruise will give us an opportunity to see the Manhattan skyline at night and from the water.  We haven’t pre-purchased tickets because we can just pick them up at Pier 83 before the cruise. 

Sometimes you just know that something will be special. This is one of those times. Continue reading

Today Alex and I will spend part of the day enjoying the tranquility of Central Park before we make our way to Roosevelt Island via the Roosevelt Island Tram.  Why?  I saw reference to the “tram” on a map and have no idea what there is to do on Roosevelt Island but taking the tram will be a novelty and I guess we will find out the rest when we get there. USA series: Chrysler Building, Macy’s department store and US Open Tennis

New York City is famous for several of its tall and magnificent buildings.  Alex and I are today heading to one of these buildings, the iconic Chrysler Building.

The Chrysler Building was built in the 1930’s and reflects the character build of its era, often recognised for its terraced stainless steel clad crown, built in a radiating sunburst design, incorporating triangular windows.  This building’s spire is especially beautiful illuminated at night.

Also today we will also visit Macy’s department store.  Tonight we head to the US Open tennis, a tournament held during August/September each year at Flushing Meadows. Continue reading

USA Series: Statue of Liberty and 9/11 Memorial

The Statue of Liberty and the 9/11 Memorial are two of the main New York “attractions” which Alex and I are looking to visit today. 

Both are located in downtown Manhattan and between them, should take up most of our day.

It is a slightly overcast Thursday morning with a top of 22 degrees forecast. Humidity 87%.
